Upcoming fights on Spike UFC Fight night for March 26, 2011

This weekend, Satuday March 26, 2011 we are in for some good fights.

The main event is "Lil Nog" a.k.a. Antionio Rogerio Nogueira vs Phil Davis, a.k.a Mr. Wonderful.

Boommin Brian: "Phil Davis is going to win this fight, and I foresee a future match up with John Jones."

Phil Davis, 26,  has an excellent striking and wrestling back ground, 8 wins, no loses and no draws.  Talented in submissions, take downs and striking, Davis is a well rounded offensive fighter and statically an excellent defensive fighter, having avoided being taken down all of his professional matches.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira "Lil Nog," 34, a seasoned fighter with 19 fights, 4 losses and no draws matches (pre-weigh ins) Davis's weight and size.   Nogueira is great at striking and submissions however not so much at take downs, which with Davis's superior take down defenses it is doubtful we will see much of this fight on the ground.

Lady Kajukenbo:  "Looking at these two fighters you have to take into consideration that Nogueira is 8 years older, he has more experiences and his statistics are set, we know that his take downs skills could be improved, we know that his fists are dangerous and he is good with submissions.

Davis on the other hand is younger, he is coming up fast with zero losses, but only half the fights of Nogueira his is statically more well rounded, good at everything but master of none... so we think, honestly in 8 fights what can we tell about this guy?  It is likely that as long as Davis doesn't under estimate Nogueira's fists he may just win this match.  Davis has shown us just the tip of what he is capable of and I believe he may follow Johnny Jone's path to the top."

------------

Hardy vs. Johnson

"This is actually the fight that I really want to see, this is going to be a banger.  I don't know who to pick it could go either way, its just who is going to get caught.  Hardy has lost his last two fights, one by getting knocked out by Condit and he lost against GSP." - Boommin Brian

Lady Kajukenbo - "Dan The Outlaw Hardy, is primarily a striker with take downs leading to him beating his opponent senseless once they hit the mat.  His grappling submission skills are almost non existent, but he makes up for it with his fists.  He is coming off of two fresh losses, losing by decision to St. Pierre and knocked out in the first round by Condit.

Anthony Johnson lost his last fight against Josh Koshcheck by submission, he's a good striker, and he has more knowledge of submissions than Hardy.  Johnson may do well to try to get this fight to the ground and take Hardy by submission if he can.  It  really just depends on what he feels his weaknesses are. "

Although Boom would like to interject at this time :" I would like to point out to my wife, Lady Kajukenbo, that Johnson's loss was controversial and that if Johnson had not gotten poked in the eye I doubt that Koshcheck would have been able to get the winning submission."

True, true but Lady Kajukenbo has a little more faith in Koscheck, - "On the ground or standing up Hardy will not miss an opportunity to try to wail on Johnson, this is going to be good fight.  I am favoring Hardy for this match, if he can get past these last to losses mentally."

UFC 128, Saturday March 18, 2010 Results

Cro-cop vs. Schaub went three rounds ending with Schaub landing a vicious right hand behind the ear of Cro-cop immediately knocking Cro-cop out on his feet.  Cro-cop landing hard, his right arm limp behind him and his head smacking into the mat.
Schaub came back from a kick to the groin early in the second and a broken nose from a hard elbow.

Dan Miller vs. Marquardt - Marquardt won by unanimous decision - In Boommin Brian’s opinion this fight was not spectacular in any way, with no real rounds worth mentioning.

Jim Miller vs. Kamal Shalorus - Miller wins by knock out, in the third round started by landing a hard left then a right knee to face that put Shalorus down.

Co-Main event
Urijah Fabor vs. Eddie Wineland

Boom's choice Wineland, mine, Fabor.  No unity between husband and wife on this fight.

Both fighters defended beautifully against each other's take downs, succeeding in getting each other down only to have them pop back up again. Wineland dominated the first round.

Second round Fabor slams Wineland back into the mat then lands a hard knee.   Wineland tries to kick Urijah off throwing him high into the air, but Fabor holds on tight and lands on top.  Fabor slams him into the mat and lands some elbows.  This round is definitely Fabor’s.

According to Boom, Fabor and Wineland needed to be stood up since the strikes from Fabor weren't doing much.  His wife disagrees - I think Fabor definitely took this round.

Third round, 1:17 left of the third, Fabor takes Wineland down and dominates staying on top and striking with elbows and slamming Wineland into the mat. If nothing else Fabor has won the third round with the take down and dominates on the ground till final seconds of the fight.

Judges score 29-28 Urijah Fabor wins unanimous decision.

John Jones vs. Mauricio Shogun Rua
Round one: Jones uses his long legs flying kick early that goes no were followed by a high round house a few swings and misses by Rua .Jones takes Rua down hard on the mat about 4:30 in the first round.   Jones dominated on the ground - but digging his elbow into Rau's neck three minutes into the first then a finger into Rau's eye – No mention by ref, finally after the third time Jones is caught digging his thumb into Rua’s throat. They stand up and Jones rocks Rua with some big punches but Rua stays standing.  One minute left a big right knee to Rua and end of the first round and both of these men look very tired.

Jones strong kicks rock Shogun taking him down in 2:40 of the 2nd Jones gets the mount and immediately starts covering Shoguns mouth and nose.  Jones using his forearm to put pressure on Shoguns neck - Jones throws elbows to the body of Shogun, Shogun reacting painfully with each blow

Jones looks to finish Shogun and does in the third.  Jones most definitely dominated the fight.

Commentary

Boommin notes that Urijah needs to change his music and that he wants Fabor to get knocked out.

Both Jones and Rua were gracious in their interview - Rashad Evens showed up - Rashad Evens is next in line to fight Jones, however they are team mates.  Supposedly Evans blew out his knee in training camp, which is the reason that Jones was got the shot to fight Rua.  Jones was definitely next in line after Evens after his fight with Ryan Bader.  In Boommin Brian’s opinion Rashad looked to be walking just fine when he got into the ring; could this have been planned?

Either way it will be a good fight and honestly although Boommin picks Jones I doubt that Rashad will fall for Jones' choking tactics. It should be interesting to see them fight since they have trained together.  Ultimately it will come down to which man is the better fighter, especially since their team mates.

Boommin Brian was very disappointed and feeling a cheated that the filler fight was seen Spike before the fight.  Rafael got knocked out 2.32 in the first round Erik Koch.  I wasn’t impressed, Rafael ran into Kock’s fist knocking himself out. It was amusing but not the knock out of the night in my opinion.  That should definitely go to Shaub for the ugly way he took out Cro-cop. Our family jumped up and screamed the line from “Friday” – “You got knocked the F*#%  out!”

Boom's Celebrity Watch List

Ice T and wife Coco, as Boom puts it, "the finest white woman in the world" is in the house, MC Hammer seated with them.  Kevin James is also in the house, looking much leaner... here is a bit of trivia - Kevin James trains MMA - go Paul Blart!

Boom would like to mention that Ice T is in the back ground during Shogun Rua vs. Jones taking pictures of Coco smiling and pointing towards the cage with her cell phone - no doubt these pictures will be posted to her twitter page within moments.
